Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most common questions we get asked about starlink installations. If you still can't find the answer your looking for, please contact us below.
STARLINK internet is a satellite-based internet service provided by SpaceX which offers high speed internet to rural communities. It utilizes a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to deliver high-speed internet access to residential customers in areas with limited or no traditional broadband options. The STARLINK system works by transmitting internet signals from these satellites to a dish installed at your home, which then communicates with a router to distribute internet connectivity to your devices via Wi-Fi. This innovative approach aims to provide fast and reliable internet access to underserved communities around the world.
STARLINK internet relies on a network of satellites orbiting the Earth to provide internet access, whereas traditional broadband typically utilizes cables or fiber-optic lines. This satellite-based approach allows STARLINK to reach remote and rural areas where traditional broadband infrastructure may be limited or unavailable.
You can check STARLINK’s availability in your area by visiting their website and entering your address or location. STARLINK is continually expanding its coverage, so even if it’s not available yet, it may become an option in the future.
STARLINK offers high-speed internet access with low latency, making it suitable for activities such as video streaming, online gaming, and remote work. Additionally, STARLINK’s satellite-based technology enables it to deliver internet connectivity to areas where traditional providers may not offer service. If you are off-grid and not tied into phone lines or fiber optic services, Starlink is likely the best option for you.
The box that gets shipped by Starlink usually includes the dish, a roll of pre-terminated cable, a very simple (almost throw-away) mount and a wireless router. 99% of the time, our technicians do not use the provided Starlink mount as we have much better options available. A simple install typically uses a small J-Arm, a more complicated one uses a tripod and in extreme cases we need to install a light duty tower. The specific equipment provided may vary based on your location and service plan so get in touch and we can send you a quote before arriving.
If you could see the connection between a Starlink satellite and your Starlink dish, it would look like a single beam between the two objects. As the satellite moves, the beam also moves. The area within which this beam moves is the “field of view”. If any object such as a tree, chimney, pole, etc. interrupts the path of the beam, even briefly, your internet service will most likely be interrupted. In early service, the required clear field of view is a 100-degree cone around the center of the dish (after tilting) with a 25-degree elevation minimum. Some obstructions are worse than others. Obstructions low in the sky will cause more outages because satellites are in this area of the sky more frequently. The best guidance we can give is to install your Starlink at the highest elevation possible where it is safe to do so, with a clear view of the sky. Users who live in areas with lots of tall trees, buildings, etc. may not be good candidates for early use of Starlink, however we can usually get above that with our light duty towers. As more and more satellites are launched by SpaceX, the field of view constraints will decrease, enabling a wider variety of users. Most people do not accurately assess their STARLINK’s field of view and get poor results. To ensure the best possible service, our technicians will first assess the field of view in your desired install location before installing.
If you need further coverage in your home you have two options. First, you can purchase another “mesh node” directly from Starlink and pair them together using the Starlink App. This process is usually pretty painless and takes only a few moments. Second, if the “mesh pods” are too expensive or you don’t find them doing the trick, we can install a 3rd party mesh system and customize it specifically for your home. The second option is usually the most popular and allows for greater flexibility. Visit this page to find our more!

We can get that signal to another building no problem! We call this a point to point connection and it links two buildings together either wirelessly or wired. Most people prefer the wireless approach as it’s less of a pain than digging a trench. For more information check out our building to building (or point to point) solution:

We perform many “rescue installs” for customers as getting the Starlink dish in the right spot and looking good can be quite the task! Our technicians work extremely hard to hide the wire and dish so your home stays beautiful and leak free. We charge the same amount for a new install or ‘rescue install’ as most of the time usually is undoing the work already done.
Absolutely. We can splice your Starlink cable back together again if you are outside of the warranty period or a new dish is just too costly. The cost will depend on the complexity of the repair.
Download the STARLINK app to assess the field of view in your desired install location before installing. If the STARLINK app shows your location as more than 10% obstructed, you should consider a new location for “dishy” or move it up onto the roof. A roof installation is ideal for optimal service. Roof mounts are available for purchase in your account.
From the time we show up on-site until the time we leave it could take under an hour or it could take many hours, it really depends on the work involved. We do all types of installations from simple off the edge of the roof to large tower setups. Get in touch and we’ll give you a rough quote!
Currently, STARLINK does not have hard data caps, but usage policies may vary based on factors such as network congestion and location. It’s essential to review the terms of service to understand any limitations that may apply to your usage.
It’s possible you entered an incorrect email address when you placed your order. To gain access to your STARLINK account, click “Locked out?” on the STARLINK sign-in page. To access the sign-in page, visit STARLINK.com and select “Sign-In” from the menu in the upper right.
